A flight attendant developed a range of illnesses and attributed them to an encounter with the “blue juice” that is utilized in airplane toilets. The blue liquid was reported to have been in the plane’s galley.

Edison Engineering investigated the claims, looking at the maintenance history of the plane, the design of the airplane and its lavatory, and all possible paths of the liquid into the galley. We were unable to find any credible route the blue juice could take to enter the galley in the manner described, and thus, based upon our analysis, could not support the flight attendant’s claim.
